Like many Americans, I crave sugar. It’s not surprising since recent studies have shown that sugar triggers the same pleasure centers in the brain as cocaine. I also had an Italian grandfather who would make waffles with syrup for breakfast and then ask me what we should have for dessert. It’s in my genes.
So naturally, after dinner–usually a savory meal in my house–I crave something sweet. I keep baker’s chocolate in the fridge because it has more cacao, and less sugar than regular chocolate with cocoa, but sometimes I want a healthier treat. Here’s what I do:
1-2 teaspoon(s) of honey (in a bowl); microwave for 10-15 seconds.
Add your faves: sliced banana, (no sugar added) shredded coconut, almonds, walnuts, raisins, Craisins, etc.
See, no baking and guilt free! Plus, it crushes cravings without overdosing on sugar. Enjoy!
